According to Wikipedia, alternative energy is an umbrella term that is used to describe any source of usable energy intended to replace fuel sources without having the undesired consequences of the replaced fuels.  Fossil fuels can lead to problems with high carbon dioxide emissions, which contribute to global warming.  The hope is that alternative energy sources can avoid creating these problems. This poster lists 6 different alternative energy sources being explored and used by scientists today (wave energy, solar power, hydro-electric power, wind power, geothermal energy, biomass and nuclear energy). Pictures symbolic of these alternative energies are featured, along with clear and concise definitions of each type of energy.  This is a superb poster to use for display in any science classroom!
