The centipede is an arthropod that has 1 pair of legs per body segment. Exclusively predatory, centipedes usually eat anything that is soft-bodied and within a reasonable size range. However, the Amazonian giant centipede (also known as scolopendra giganta) is so large, it’s been observed eating spiders, bats and even rodents! Now that’s a BIG centipede! However, centipedes also have a number of predators that feed on them, some exclusively! Centipedes can be found in all kinds of environments, and some can even be potentially harmful to humans due to their poisonous bites! Although a bite to an adult human may be just painful, those that have allergies to bee stings should take care to get medical attention if bitten by a centipede.
