Hydrogen car design project A fuel cell is an environmentally friendly energy production device that holds great promise for the future. With this award-winning science kit, you can build a model car that runs on hydrogen gas using a unique reversible fuel cell. See for yourself how a car can work without any fossil fuels.
First, use the fuel cell to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen gas. Then, plug in the motor and the fuel cell uses these gases to produce electricity that moves the car across the floor or a table. The only by-product is clean water.
The special Proton Exchange Membrane in the fuel cell allows it to both split water into hydrogen and oxygen and combine those two gases into water, making it a reversible fuel cell. Some fuel cells, such as this one, do not consume any fossil fuels and therefore are considered environmentaly friendly.
Our first kit, the Fuel Cell Car & Experiment Kit (see below in related items), has been a hot item since its introduction five years ago. It has captivated tens of thousands of children and adults alike, who have played and learned with it. Now, in the sixth year from the launch of the original kit, we have created another version of the fuel cell car kit, the Fuel Cell X7. This kit still has our award-winning model car with its unique reversible fuel cell not found in other fuel cell car models.
In this version, we have altered the kit to make it accessible to more users, both in terms of content and price. We have created a new manual focused more on building and designing a fuel cell car, rather than the comprehensive lesson on the science of fuel cells and solar cells found in the first version. We have lowered the minimum age and geared the instructions to a younger audience. The kit has been optimized for simplicity and ease of use over thorough experimentation. With its new focus, some parts have become unnecessary and thusly have been removed to reduce the cost. The kit that is right for you or your child will depend on your needs, interest level, and age group.
The full-color, 16-page manual contains easy, step-by-step instructions for assembling and using the car, as well as scientific explanations.
