Lensatic Compass exceeds expectations

This is my second purchase of this item, this time as a gift for my son, the surveyor. Although mislabeled as prismatic, it is a top-grade item for field use -- sturdy, well-made, and thus far quite reliable. The bubble level is needful when looking down at the compass, but the view through the magnified edge port gives you everything you need to keep it stable.

Military Prismatic Compass

This review request motivated me to look over the item more carefully (I bought it in March to use as a Christmas gift). I paid $10 for the item. It turns out that it is made in China. I just discovered that the item has what I perceive to be a flaw - a bubble in the working fluid. However, the item works and seems to otherwise be of good quality and will function well at its purpose. Look this item over carefully when you get it to make sure you don't need to return it. I'm not returning mine. If I had paid the $59 I would likely request a replacement but at $10, no problem.

Not a prismatic but very good

An easy-to-use field compass that allows readings to half a degree or less. The card settles quickly and stays steady. I've used several military prismatic compasses and this, although not prismatic, is the one I'd choose for general surveying and field work. The manual could be clearer but you get the hang of it eventually. At the price, this unit can't be beat!
