The caterpillars grow and develop so dramatically, children will want to inspect them several times throughout the day! After about 7 days, the caterpillars will make their way to the top of the cups, suspend themselves upside-down from the ceiling and morph into chrysalides. After two or three days you’ll move the chrysalides into the butterfly habitat. The class’ butterflies will emerge approximately seven to ten days later! Your beautiful butterflies are a delight to observe, but it is essential to release them outdoors within about a week of their emergence from the chrysalides. Turn the release into a celebration of life! Additonally the release of the butterflies teaches children yet another valuable lesson about the necessity to allow their butterflies to undergo their important life cycle; it even teaches them how to let go in general, an essential life-skill for anyone.
