We have an unwavering respect for the environment. We believe sound ecological stewardship is a moral and ethical responsibility, and we're committed to encouraging responsible use of our natural resources. Sustainable practices build customer and employee loyalty, drive new business, and are often cost-effective too — and that shows up in both the products we sell and how we run the company:

• Our compact invoice postcards and promotional inserts are printed with soy-based, eco-friendly inks that emit very low volatile organic compounds (VOCs) — among the lowest levels anywhere, and well below AQMD requirements. Invoice details are printed thermally, using no ink or toner, eliminating toner waste entirely.
• We use recyclable materials throughout our packaging. Our cardboard boxes and packing bubbles are 100% recyclable, and our invoices use 100% recycled-content paper.
• We run a recycling program at our warehouse and store, and proceeds fund employee-morale activities — creating more incentive to take part.
• We're committed to a paper-less work environment, handling memos, announcements, and customer and employee contact primarily by email.
• We recently reduced our energy consumption by 30%. Daily conservation — turning off lights, appliances, and computers when not in use, and limiting A/C and heating — is part of our standard procedures.
• We sell a large variety of kits and products that teach young minds about alternative energy, how pollution affects our environment, and creative ways to recycle. See our Green Products category for examples.
• We routinely donate to science fairs, camps, and events that teach children and youth about environmental stewardship.

We keep looking for ways to do better — including eventually running our warehouse on solar energy and moving to an even smaller invoice format to further cut energy use and paper waste. We're committed to doing business in an ecologically responsible way, and we hope our practices and products encourage our partners and customers, both old and young, to aim for the same.
