This 7.25 x 10.25 inches magnifying plastic sheet is great for optics / science projects, for reading or just fun. A French physicist named Augustin Fresnel invented this lens in 1822 to be used in lighthouses. The construction of Fresnel lens is quite interesting as it allows magnification just like regular glass lenses do but it can be as thin as paper!

fresnel lens sheet

I bought two so we could have one in the bedroom and one down stairs. At our age, reading becomes a problem. Without two of these we would always find it on the other floor when we needed it. Buying two saved on the freight a bit. Now if someone would just come up with a wire or plastic rack to hold the lens about half an inch above the reading material, all our problems reading would be solved.
Fresnel Lense Sheet

I purchased the Fresnel Lens Sheet for addition to my emergency kit. This provides a method of starting camp fires with minimal effort. Using bark from a Lace Bark Elm, with the sun at 1:00 on April 6, I was able to get a flame in 3.5 seconds using the lens.
