Lodestones are amazing magnetic rocks found in nature!  These lodestone chunks are naturally magnetized pieces of magnetite; note the iron filings which still cling to the rock when you remove it from the packaging as evidence.  Lodestones were originally utilized as rudimentary compasses, but these days they make a great gift for a young scientific explorer or the geologically-inclined adult.  Introduces fundamental magnetic concepts.  Fun stocking stuffer; fool them into thinking it’s coal.  ;)

Features:

  • Average of 1 to 2 inches in length for these specimens.
  • Naturally magnetized chunk of magnetite
  • Iron filings demonstrate the magnetic properties
  • Great small gift or stocking stuffer

NOTE: These are natural geological formations; most likely your piece will not exactly resemble our sample picture.

This magnet has a strength of: 50 Gauss (0.005 T)

good product as described

5 star rating  A magnetic stone
Micah S from Ojai, CA
Exactly as it appears in the photo, a black stone covered with a "furry" dust. Has a clear magnetic effect: can pick up a couple paper clips, and deflect a small compass. Fun to try and figure out where the poles are (a do-able task).
