The green rose chafer beetle is a relatively large beetle that generally has a striking metallic green coloration (but can also have a bronze, blue/black or grey coloring). Found mostly in southern and central Europe and the UK, they get their name from feeding off the pollen of roses (and other flowers as well). They are capable of VERY fast flight—their wing structure is similar to a bumble bee. It definitely should be classified as being one of the most beautiful insects around. Not only are the beautiful, but they’re beneficial to humans! Their larvae are the equivalent of earthworms, and they can help make very good compost for gardens when found in large numbers.
Now, you can get a great specimen of a REAL, honest-to-goodness rose chafer beetle mounted in a clear acrylic block. Get an up close and personal look at this! Students and teacher alike will be in awe of its gorgeous coloring, as well as get a good lesson in insect body structure in the process! Great for looking at details under a microscope, or for having in the classroom, this is a great educational resource for the young science student or for the serious entomologist!
Actual size of block is 3in x 1.5in x 1in (7.6cm x 3.8cm x 2.5cm)
