This specialized jar allows you to both store iron filings for electro-magnetic experimentation, and to perform said experiments by generating a magnetic field within the jar.  The jar has two components: the main body of the jar holds iron filings, while an interior tube, containing an AlNiCo (Alumininum-Nickel-Cobalt) magnet hangs in the center of the jar.  Remove the lid and place as many iron filings in as you wish, then close the lid and watch as the iron filings interact with the interior magnet, creating fascinating 3D patterns that reflect the magnetic field of the magnet.  The jar also includes a hook so that you can hang your magnetic field for the whole classroom to see.
