This large Amethyst Point, 2-3 inches in diameter, is great for any mineral collection.

This beautiful Amethyst Point formed with a group of points inside an Amethyst Geode. Amethyst is the most highly valued stone in the quartz group. It can take over 75 million years to form and can be found in geodes in alluvial deposits. The purple color is caused by ferric iron.

FOUND IN: AUSTRIA, BRAZIL, CANADA, INDIA, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA, URUGUAY, USA AND ZAMBIA.

Amethyst is the violet variety of quartz and a complex interplay of iron and aluminum is responsible for the color which ranges from pale pinkish lavender to deep purple. The color can fade with exposure to light. It is the birthstone of February, and a symbol of heavenly understanding.
