Orthoceras is a cephalopod that first appeared approximately 500 millions years ago, and then became extinct approximately 385 million years ago. The name means "straight horn", referring to it’s characteristic of a long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. This fossil was discovered in the Atlas Mountain range of southern Morocco. It is encased in a small acrylic box, making it perfect for Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers or for small party favors. Also great for the classroom!
