Magnetic Field Lines of Force Viewer

This classroom demonstration device is perfect for understanding the patterns created by magnetic lines of force.  The viewer is a flat and sealed clear plexi-box filled with iron filings dispersed in oil.  The iron filings float in a layer of the oil and orient themselves according to the mangetic force of any magnet placed under the apparatus.  The lines of force can be displayed for the whole classroom to see via use of an overhead projector.  Excellent for entry-level earth science and magnetic experiments.

Having done the iron filing / paper / magnet exercise sixty years ago, I enjoy much fiddling with some of the newest magnetic items.
