Selenite is actually a form of gypsum. It is a very soft mineral, and can easily be scratched with a fingernail. Often found in transparent or colorless forms, the term "selenite" gets its roots from Greek mythology--the Titan goddess of the moon was called Selene. It is thought that selenite was called this due to it's pearly luster, which can very much resemble the moon. A beautiful mineral, this will be of enormous benefit for featuring a comprehensive rock collection in the science classroom, or for the rock collector in your family.
Please be aware that this is a natural mineral and as such each piece is one of a kind! The one you receive may not be exactly the same as the ones pictured but it will be similar. Price is per each piece. They come in irregular shapes, sizes and weights.
