How to start a fire with flint

1. Gently shave a small quantity of Magnesium with the serrated end of the striker into a small pile of dry grass, paper, wood and/or dry leaves
2. Strike the flint with the striker
3. Let the sparks fall onto the pile of shaved magnesium to start a fire
