This funnel holds up to 100ml of liquid solution and is constructed of sturdy Bomex glass. Separatory funnels are utilized in the lab to separate the components of a mixture into two immiscible solvent phases of different densities, such as oil and water, which do not mix. The mixture is poured through the top of the funnel, which is suspended by a ring stand or burette clamp. The stopcock at the bottom of the funnel can be opened or closed to allow the mixture to drop through the bottom. The separatory funnel can also be used to create a slow drip of liquid for other situations.
