As the name suggests, the long-horned beetles have extremely long antennae, most of the time longer than their body. They are also known as longhorn or longicorns and are a large family of beetles, with over 26,000 species described.
The scientific name, Cerambycidae, goes back to a figure from Greek mythology. After an argument with nymphs, the shepherd Cerambus was transformed into a large beetle with horns.
This is a real specimen of the long-horned beetle encased in an acrylic block. It is convenient to study under a microscope or a magnifying glass from all sides. It is also very durable and, as such perfect for classroom use.
